There are so many things to consider, when choosing a travel destination! Sometimes you want to go where the sun warms the skies, sometimes it is all about beautiful and busy city breaks – and other times you just need to find a place to relax – a place where everything comes together in sweet harmony! When Frenchie and I chose our holiday destination in July our minds were all set on mountains! I love mountains and I really needed to get out of the big city and find some inner peace – and I certainly found, what I was looking for
Lake Königsee in Berchtesgaden. The pictures says it all…
My parents have visited Berchtesgaden a few times and always speak so fondly of the area, so Frenchie and I decided to explore this place of beauty after a few days in Salzburg. Finding a hotel was not difficult! There are so many adorable Bavarian styled hotels and apartments here, but our nest was the loveliest of them all set right in the heart of the Bavarian Alps – Best West Plus Berghotel Rehlegg
The Rehlegg hotel is enthroned upon a small elevation in Bergsteinerhof Ramsau, which has dedicated itself to gentle, ecological tourism.
Picture perfect surroundings
The four-star superior hotel was once a simple farmhouse, named Rehlegglehen. The first documentary references to the the farm can be found as long ago as 1454! At that time, land and acres usually belonged to the church. The farmers in Berchtesgadener Valley borrowed land from the Prince-Provosts and in return, they pledged their service and obedience as well as surrendering a majority of their harvest. The Lichtmannegger family acquired Rehlegg in 1917 and was very soon letting the first guest rooms and a café. Today’s modern lodging emerged from their dedication and flair over 100 years! Lots of things have changed – but the farmhouse still stands in the same place where a peaceful mountain panorama including the Watzmann unfurls before its front door
The breathtaking view from our “Honeymoon” Suite
We were warmly greeted by the lovely staff! Before showing us to our room, we had a glass of prosecco and the grand tour of the hotel! Impeccable service (wearing cute dirndls)
I can hardly describe the look on my face, when I entered our suite! It was so big and beautiful and more that I have ever hoped for
Double King-size Deluxe bed
A separate walk-in closet bigger than my bedroom in London!
A rucksack for those who wanted a bit of mountain hiking…
And probably the biggest bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel with a shower and a bathtub… but the excitement didn’t stop here…
Our large balcony had a private jacuzzi with a beautiful mountain view! This truly was paradise on earth!
We felt like the luckiest couple on earth – and were more than ready to celebrate!
Within 5 mins Frenchie had jumped into the jacuzzi...
While I was still trying to take it all in… This is by far the most romantic place, I have been in a very long time!
Berghotel Rehlegg has rooms of different sizes! Ours was the biggest. There is also an indoor pool, a heated open-air pool with outdoor facilities, fitness-room, spa, a sauna area with different types of saunas, restaurants, a sun terrace and a bar with a fireplace
What I really love about this pool is that everything is so peaceful. You can really feel that people come here to relax. Of course children are allowed, but we didn’t see many to be honest! This is everything but an overcrowded resort hotel -and it suited me perfectly! Again I must say – if you are looking for a Honeymoon vacation, this is most certainly an option!
Time for dinner… We were on half-board, which meant a buffet feast every night! Yay!
We were presented with a daily menu card with different dishes – both international and local!
It is worth to notice that the majority of food served at Rehlegg are produced from the surrounding areas. Most of the food comes from smallholder farmers! “All our partners and suppliers come from the region. They share our values and out commitment towards the environment and have the utmost respect for all living creatures. That is very important to us”, says Hanne Lichtmannegger!
Everything your heart desires was more or less served at the buffet! We certainly didn’t go hungry to bed!
Frenchie’s favourite beer “Holler” (and he never drinks beer, but this one went straight to his heart – and stomach!)
Quite a view, right?
You can not avoid a bit of rain, when you are in the mountains. Luckily it happens mostly in the evening. Here I am enjoying a weissbeer in a cosy ourdoor area
Breakfast is served both indoor and outdoor – and yes, you guessed it – it is a beautiful buffet as well! On top of that you can choose from all kinds of eggs. I loved my omelette with mushrooms, ham, mountain cheese and chives
I was kindly invited to enjoy a few hours of complete relaxation at the Almwies’n Spa and there are SO many treatments to choose from!
I chose the full body alpine massage… and it was just what I needed
The lovely Nina spoiled me with amazing local ecological products and I felt just like a newborn baby
Earthly colours and gentle lightning! This place simply is the ultimate mindfullness experience!
Nowhere I would rather be at that moment!
We had a few trips around in the area of Berchtesgaden – and trust me the scenery is just as beautiful as you might expect!
I would like to thank the team of Berghotel Rehlegg for a wonderful week! Also it is worth mentioning that hikers come to this place, and if you would like to try it out, many tours start right outside Rehleggs front door. We didn’t go hiking but we did go to Lake Königssee and the Eagles Nest. Up on the blog soon…

I so get you comment about getting away from the city: big mountains and large water surfaces do it for me too. What charming and beautiful place. So cool to have your own jaccuzi. And wow a farm there since 1454!
Yes, it is amazing what you will find hidden in Bavarian Alps, isn’t it 🙂

That jacuzzi… Oh, I miss it already 🙂
One of the few things that London can’t give you is a jacuzzi with a mountain view 🙂
